Background Remover finds the main subject of a photo and cuts it out with soft, natural edges around hair, fur and fine detail. Add one photo or several and choose what goes behind the subject: nothing, for a transparent PNG or WebP you can drop onto any design, plain white for marketplace product photos, or any colour you pick. The AI runs on your device. In browsers with WebGPU it uses BiRefNet Lite, an MIT-licensed model that runs on your graphics chip; elsewhere it uses ORMBG, an Apache-licensed model small enough to run on the processor. The first time, your browser downloads the model, 44 to 115 MB depending on which one it needs, and keeps it for next time. Clear photos with one obvious subject work best; busy scenes, glass and subjects that blend into the background may need tidying in an editor. A before and after slider lets you check the edges. Photos are never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Is the background remover really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on image size or count beyond what your device can handle. Downloads are full resolution up to 4,096 pixels on the longest side.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser and the cut-out is made on your device, so your photos are never sent to a server. Only the model file itself comes from the internet, the first time you use the tool.

Why does the first image take longer?

Your browser downloads the AI model the first time, 44 to 115 MB depending on your browser, and stores it for later visits. After that, each image usually takes a few seconds with WebGPU, or 10 to 30 seconds on the processor alone.

How do I get a white background for a product photo?

Choose White as the new background and save as JPG or PNG. Many marketplaces, including Amazon for main images, ask for a pure white background, so check your marketplace's current image rules for size and framing too.

What photos work best?

Photos with one clear subject, such as a person, product, pet or car, against a background that contrasts with it. Fine hair and fur usually come out well. Glass, smoke, very busy scenes and subjects the same colour as the background are harder and may need tidying in an editor.
