About RightSums

RightSums is a free set of 201 tools for the money, work, home, health and paperwork questions people in the UK, the US and Canada run into, from what a pay rise is really worth after tax to how much gravel to order for a drive.

What you will find here

• Pay and tax. Take-home pay for salaries from £15,000 to £200,000, hourly rates, IR35 day rates, NHS and teacher pay by band, UK tax codes, bonuses and second jobs; paychecks for all 50 US states and DC; and income tax for every Canadian province and territory.
• Money. Mortgages, overpayments and recasts, credit card payoff, savings and investment growth, retirement, and Canadian CPP, OAS, RRSP and RRIF figures.
• Work and renting. Holiday entitlement, redundancy and Ontario severance pay, overtime, pro rata salaries and prorated rent.
• Home and energy. What appliances cost to run at the current Ofgem price cap, how much paint, flooring, concrete, gravel or asphalt a job needs, and stair and roof pitch checks.
• Health. BMI, body fat, A1C to average blood sugar, daily water intake and pregnancy due dates.
• PDF and business documents. PDF tools that run in your browser, so your files are not uploaded, and tools that check invoices against purchase orders, compare supplier quotes and turn receipts into expense reports.

Who runs RightSums

RightSums is run by Dany (RightSums team), who is responsible for the figures and wording on every page. We build a tool only when it answers a real question someone has about their money, work, home or health, and we would rather have fewer tools that are right than many that are vague.

How we check our figures

Every rate, threshold and rule comes from the organisation that sets it, such as GOV.UK and HMRC, the IRS, the Canada Revenue Agency, Ofgem, the NHS and NHS Employers, and each page lists its sources and the date they were last checked. We keep a calendar of when each figure changes, from the UK tax year in April to the quarterly energy price cap and Canada's quarterly pension rates, and review each one when its source updates. Calculations are tested against worked examples, including the official examples published by those bodies where they exist.
