WebP is the image format Google recommends for the web: every current browser shows it, it supports transparency, and it is usually far smaller than PNG. Add your PNG files and each is encoded with libwebp. Lossy mode at quality 80 suits photos and most graphics and gives the biggest saving. Tick lossless for logos, screenshots and anything with sharp text, where every pixel is kept exactly and the file is still typically smaller than the PNG. Transparent backgrounds and soft edges are kept in both modes. Each file shows its old and new size, with a before and after slider to check the result. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Does WebP keep transparency?

Yes. WebP stores a full alpha channel in both lossy and lossless modes, so transparent backgrounds, cut-outs and soft shadows look the same as in the PNG.

Lossy or lossless WebP?

Lossless keeps every pixel and is best for logos, icons, screenshots and text, and it is still usually smaller than the PNG. Lossy at quality 75 to 85 gives much smaller files and suits photos and illustrations with gradients.

Will WebP work everywhere?

It works in every current browser, on Android and iPhone, and in recent versions of Windows, macOS, WordPress and most image editors. Some older software and a few upload forms still reject it; use PNG or JPG for those.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Every image is decoded, processed and saved inside your browser using WebAssembly encoders, so the files never leave your phone or computer. You can switch off your internet connection after the page loads and the tool still works.
