PNG is lossless and supported by virtually every image editor, office suite and website, so it is a safe target when a WebP will not open. Add one or more WebP files and each is decoded in your browser and saved as a PNG with the same name, with no quality loss beyond what was already in the WebP. There are no settings, and several files can be downloaded together as a ZIP. Note that transparent areas are currently filled with white, so this tool is not suitable for logos or cut-outs that need a see-through background. Animated WebPs are saved as a single still frame. PNGs of photos are usually larger than the original WebP. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Does WebP to PNG keep transparency?

Not at the moment. Transparent areas are filled with white during conversion, so logos and cut-outs will lose their see-through background. If you need transparency, use an image editor that exports PNG with an alpha channel.

Is WebP to PNG conversion lossless?

The PNG step is lossless, so nothing further is lost. If the original WebP was saved with lossy compression, those small artefacts are already in the image and remain in the PNG.

Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?

WebP compresses images much more tightly than PNG. Photos in particular can be several times larger as PNG. Use WebP to JPG if you want a smaller file for sharing.

Can I convert an animated WebP to PNG?

Only one frame. PNG files made here are still images, so the converter saves a single frame of the animation, normally the first, and the motion is lost.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Each WebP is decoded and saved as PNG inside your browser, so the files stay on your device and nothing is kept on our servers.
