PNG is lossless, so every pixel from the decoded HEIC photo is kept, which is useful when you plan to edit, crop or retouch the image and save it again several times. Add one or many HEIC or HEIF files and each is decoded in your browser with the heic-to library, then saved as a PNG with the same file name. There are no settings to adjust. Bear in mind that PNG files of full-resolution iPhone photos are large, often several times the size of the original, so use HEIC to JPG for sharing. The photo is redrawn on a canvas, so EXIF details such as GPS location are not copied. Download each file or all of them as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Should I convert HEIC to PNG or JPG?

Choose PNG if you will edit the photo and save it repeatedly, as it never adds compression artefacts. Choose JPG for sharing, email and uploads, because a PNG of a phone photo can be several times larger.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?

HEIC uses very efficient lossy compression, while PNG stores the image losslessly. A 12 megapixel iPhone photo can easily become a PNG of 15 MB or more.

Does HEIC to PNG keep transparency?

No. iPhone photos are not transparent in the first place, and the converter draws each photo onto a white background, so the PNG always has a solid background.

Can I convert several HEIC files to PNG at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like and they are processed one after another. A Download all (ZIP) button saves the batch in one go.

Are my photos kept private?

Yes. The HEIC files are decoded in your browser and never uploaded. The PNG is a fresh image, so GPS location and other EXIF data from the original are not included.
