Google's own comparison found WebP files 25% to 34% smaller than JPG at equivalent quality, which makes pages load faster and helps Core Web Vitals. Add your JPG photos and each is encoded with libwebp at the quality you choose, 80 by default. The tool shows the old and new size of every file, so you can see the saving straight away, and a before and after slider for checking detail. Location and camera details are not copied across. If a converted file is larger than the JPG, which can happen with photos that were already heavily compressed, lower the quality or keep the JPG. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller is WebP than JPG?

Google's study measured WebP at 25% to 34% smaller than JPG for the same visual quality. Your saving depends on the photo and the quality you pick; the results list shows the exact before and after size for every file.

What quality should I use for WebP?

80 is a good default for photos on websites. Use 85 to 90 for product images where fine texture matters, and 65 to 75 for thumbnails and backgrounds. Check the before and after slider at full size.

Should I convert all my website images to WebP?

For most sites, yes: every current browser supports it and smaller images load faster. Keep the original JPGs as a backup, and keep JPG for email attachments and places where older software may need to open the file.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Every image is decoded, processed and saved inside your browser using WebAssembly encoders, so the files never leave your phone or computer. You can switch off your internet connection after the page loads and the tool still works.
