PNG is lossless, so once a photo is saved as PNG, editing and re-saving it never adds new compression damage. That makes it the right working format for design, collages and repeated edits, and some forms and print services ask for PNG. Add your JPG files and each is saved as a PNG compressed with OxiPNG, which keeps the file as small as a lossless PNG can be. Converting cannot remove artefacts that are already in the JPG, and the PNG will be larger, often several times, because it stores every pixel exactly. Location and camera details are not copied across. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. It stops further loss, but any blockiness already in the JPG stays in the PNG. Convert from the best original you have.

Why is the PNG so much bigger?

PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG throws away detail to save space. For photos the PNG is often 3 to 10 times larger. If you need a small file, keep the JPG or use JPG to WebP.

Can I make the background transparent?

Converting does not remove backgrounds. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG has the same solid background. You would need an editor to cut out the subject.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Every image is decoded, processed and saved inside your browser using WebAssembly encoders, so the files never leave your phone or computer. You can switch off your internet connection after the page loads and the tool still works.
