When you scan an open book or a folded booklet, each page of the PDF holds two facing pages. This tool turns every page into two. Automatic mode cuts wide pages into left and right halves and tall pages into top and bottom halves, or you can force a vertical or horizontal cut. Tick the options to keep the first or last page whole for covers, and choose right-to-left order for Arabic, Hebrew or manga scans so the right half comes first. The cut is made exactly at the middle of each page by adjusting its visible area, so nothing is re-rendered and quality is unchanged. The hidden half of each new page remains in the file. How to use the Halve PDF Pages

  1. Drop the scanned PDF into the box, entering its password if asked.
  2. Leave the cut direction on Automatic, or choose a vertical or horizontal cut.
  3. Tick Keep the first page whole or Keep the last page whole for covers, and Right-to-left if needed.
  4. Click Halve pages and download the new PDF, which has roughly twice as many pages.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a scanned book page into two pages?

Load the scan here, leave the cut direction on Automatic and click Halve pages. Each wide page is cut down the middle into a left page and a right page, placed in reading order in the new PDF.

What if the spine is not in the centre of the page?

The cut is always made at the exact middle of the visible page. For off-centre scans, run the file through Crop PDF first to trim the uneven margin, then halve it so the cut lands on the spine.

Can I keep the front and back covers as single pages?

Yes. Tick Keep the first page whole and Keep the last page whole before halving. Those pages are copied unchanged while every other page is split in two.

Is text still searchable after halving?

Yes, if it was searchable before. The content is not re-rendered, only the visible area of each page changes. Scanned pages without a text layer stay as images, so run PDF OCR afterwards to search them.

Does halving make the file bigger?

Usually only slightly. Each half shows part of the same page content, which is shared rather than copied twice. That also means the hidden half is still inside the file, so do not rely on halving to remove content.
