This converter reads the selectable text in your PDF and rebuilds it as an editable Word (.docx) document. Larger text becomes Heading 1, 2 or 3 based on its size compared with the body text, lines starting with bullets or numbers become proper lists, and words split by end-of-line hyphens are joined. Body text is set in Calibri 11pt. Tick Start each PDF page on a new page to keep the original page breaks, or leave it off for continuous text. Tables become real Word tables, pictures are placed where they appear in the text, bold and italic words keep their style, and two-column pages are put into reading order. Fonts, colours and exact positions are simplified, so it suits reports, letters and CVs better than brochures. You can convert all pages or a range. Scanned PDFs need PDF OCR first. The PDF is processed in your browser.

How to use the PDF to Word

  1. Open the PDF you want to edit, entering its password if asked.
  2. Leave Pages empty for the whole file or type a range such as 2-5.
  3. Tick Start each PDF page on a new page if you want to keep the original page breaks.
  4. Click Convert to Word and open the .docx in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.

Frequently asked questions

Will the Word document look the same as my PDF?

No, it keeps the words and the basic structure rather than the look. Headings, paragraphs and bulleted or numbered lists are rebuilt so the .docx file is easy to edit and keeps headings, lists, tables, pictures and bold or italic text, but fonts, colours and exact positions are simplified.

Are tables kept when converting PDF to Word?

Yes, when the table is laid out in aligned columns. Rows of three or more lines that share at least two aligned columns become a Word table, and an empty cell stays empty in its own column. Tables with merged or wrapped cells may need tidying, and PDF to Excel gives you the same columns in a spreadsheet.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?

Not directly. A scan is a picture of text, so there is nothing to extract and the tool tells you so. Run the file through the PDF OCR tool to add a text layer, then convert the new PDF.

Can I keep the original page breaks?

Yes. Tick Start each PDF page on a new page and each PDF page begins on a fresh page in the .docx file. Leave it unticked for flowing text, which is easier to edit when you plan to change the length.

Is PDF to Word conversion private?

Yes. The text is extracted with pdf.js and the .docx file is built in your browser, so contracts, CVs and other personal documents are never uploaded. Password-protected PDFs ask for the password, which is used only on your device.
