DOCX is the Word format that also opens in Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer and Apple Pages. This tool pulls the selectable text out of your PDF with pdf.js and writes a clean .docx using the docx library, all inside your browser. Text noticeably larger than the body becomes a real heading, bulleted and numbered lines become lists, and hyphenated line endings are joined back into whole words. You can convert a page range and choose whether each PDF page starts on a new page. The file is plain and editable, set in Calibri 11pt, rather than a copy of the original design: tables, pictures and bold or italic text are kept, while colours and exact positions are not. Scans need PDF OCR first, and password-protected PDFs ask for the password.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between PDF to DOCX and PDF to Word?

None in the output. Both create a .docx file, the format Word has used since 2007. This page exists for people who search for the file extension; it also opens in Google Docs, LibreOffice and Apple Pages.

Will the DOCX keep my PDF's layout?

No. It keeps the text, headings, paragraphs, bulleted or numbered lists, tables and pictures, and puts two-column pages into reading order, but not the original fonts, colours or exact positions. Body text is set in Calibri 11pt so the document is clean and easy to edit.

Why does it say my PDF has no selectable text?

The PDF is probably a scan or a set of page photos, so there is no text to extract. Run it through the PDF OCR tool first to add a text layer, then convert the new file to DOCX.

Are headings recognised?

Yes, by size. Lines noticeably larger than the main body text become Heading 1, 2 or 3 in the DOCX, so you can use Word's navigation pane. Headings that are only bold, not larger, stay as normal paragraphs.

Is the conversion done on a server?

No. The DOCX is built by the docx library running in your browser, so the PDF never leaves your device. Large files depend on your device's memory rather than an upload limit.
