ODT is the default format of LibreOffice Writer and OpenOffice, common in schools, universities and public bodies. This tool unzips the .odt file in your browser and reads its headings, paragraphs, bullet and numbered lists, tables and embedded pictures, keeping bold paragraphs and left, centre or right alignment. The content is then laid out on new pages in the DejaVu Sans font, and the document title is used for the PDF title where one is set. Choose A4, Letter, Legal, A3 or A5, portrait or sideways pages, three margin sizes and page numbers, and convert several files in one go. Your original fonts, colours, frames, fields, headers and footers are not reproduced, so complex layouts will look simpler than in Writer.

What is an ODT file?

ODT, or OpenDocument Text, is an open standard word processing format used by LibreOffice Writer, OpenOffice and other free office suites. It is a ZIP package holding the text as XML along with any pictures.

Do I need LibreOffice installed?

No. The .odt file is read and converted in your browser, so it works on any computer, tablet or phone with a modern browser, including Chromebooks and work laptops where you cannot install software.

Will complex layouts convert perfectly?

No. Headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and pictures carry over, with bold paragraphs and alignment kept, but fonts, colours, frames, fields, headers and footers are not. For an exact copy, use File, Export as PDF in LibreOffice.

Can I convert a password-protected ODT?

No. Encrypted ODT files cannot be read here, and the tool will report that the content is missing. Save an unprotected copy in LibreOffice first.

Is my ODT file uploaded?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser and the file never leaves your device, so coursework and internal documents stay private. The only thing downloaded from our site is the font used to typeset the PDF.
