Open a PDF and pick from 13 output formats in one list: Word, OpenDocument Text, Rich Text, plain text, HTML, Markdown, EPUB, Excel, OpenDocument Spreadsheet, PowerPoint, JPG, PNG and multi-page TIFF. The options change to suit the format: page breaks for documents, one sheet per page or a single sheet for spreadsheets, 72, 150 or 300 DPI for images. You can convert every page or a range such as 1-3, 5, 8-. Text formats rebuild headings, paragraphs and lists from the PDF's selectable text, so they need a digital PDF rather than a scan. How to use the Convert PDF

  1. Open the PDF you want to convert, entering its password if it has one.
  2. Choose the output format from the Convert to list.
  3. Set a page range and any options for that format, such as DPI or worksheet layout.
  4. Click Convert and download the file, or several files as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

What formats can I convert a PDF to?

Thirteen: Word (.docx), OpenDocument Text, RTF, plain text, HTML, Markdown, EPUB, Excel (.xlsx), OpenDocument Spreadsheet, PowerPoint (.pptx), JPG, PNG and multi-page TIFF. Each also has its own dedicated page if you prefer a single-purpose tool.

Will the converted file look exactly like my PDF?

Only for the image formats and PowerPoint, which show each page as a picture. Word and similar formats rebuild headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and pictures as editable content, and put two-column text into reading order, but fonts, colours and exact positions are simplified.

Can I convert a scanned PDF?

Yes for JPG, PNG, TIFF and PowerPoint, which render pages as images. Text, document and spreadsheet formats need selectable text, and the tool stops with a message if it finds almost none. Run the PDF through PDF OCR first, then convert again.

Can I convert only some pages?

Yes. Type a range in the Pages box, such as 1-3, 5, 8- to take pages one to three, page five and page eight to the end. Leave it empty to convert the whole document.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is opened with pdf.js in your browser and every output file is built on your device. If the PDF has a password, you type it into the page and it is used only to open the file locally.
