Choose your province or territory, enter your 2026 employment income and the RRSP contribution you plan to deduct. The calculator works out your federal and provincial income tax with and without the deduction, using the same 2026 rates and credits as our Canada income tax calculator, and shows the difference as your tax saving. It also shows your marginal rate before and after, a table of savings at other contribution amounts and your 2026 deduction limit: 18% of your 2025 earned income up to $33,810, less any pension adjustment, plus unused room. Add the tax already taken from your pay to estimate a refund. It is an estimate: the CRA decides your actual tax.

How to use the RRSP Tax Refund Calculator

  1. Choose the province or territory you live in and enter your 2026 employment income and the RRSP amount you plan to deduct.
  2. Add your 2025 earned income, any pension adjustment and unused room so the calculator can check your 2026 deduction limit.
  3. The calculator works out your 2026 federal and provincial income tax with and without the deduction, which lowers taxable income but not CPP or EI.
  4. Read the tax saved, your marginal rate and, if you entered the tax taken from your pay, an estimate of your refund.

Frequently asked questions

How much tax refund will I get from an RRSP contribution?

It depends on your province and income. On a $75,000 salary in Ontario, deducting $10,000 cuts 2026 income tax from $12,704.66 to $9,589.66, a saving of $3,115. Whether that arrives as a refund depends on how much tax your employer already took from your pay.

What is the RRSP contribution limit for 2026?

Your 2026 deduction limit is 18% of your 2025 earned income, up to $33,810, minus any pension adjustment, plus unused room from earlier years. On $75,000 of earned income that is $13,500 of new room. The dollar limit rises to $35,390 in 2027. Your Notice of Assessment shows your exact figure.

Why is my RRSP saving less than my marginal tax rate?

A large deduction can drop part of your income into a lower bracket. On $60,000 in Ontario, the first $1,000 of RRSP saves $290.78, but $5,000 saves $1,216.78, or 24.3%, because some of it falls into a lower bracket. The table shows savings at several amounts.

Does an RRSP save more tax in some provinces?

Yes, because provincial rates differ. In 2026, $10,000 on a $75,000 salary saves $3,611.75 in Quebec and $3,115 in Ontario. In British Columbia, $5,000 on $75,000 saves $1,410, and in Alberta, $5,000 on $60,000 saves $1,159.28.

What happens if I contribute more than my RRSP limit?

You can only deduct up to your limit, so the extra saves no tax this year. The CRA generally charges a tax of 1% a month on contributions more than $2,000 over your deduction limit, so check your limit before contributing a large amount.
