Upload .md or .markdown files, paste Markdown into the box, or do both; pasted text becomes its own PDF. The Markdown is parsed with GitHub-flavoured rules, so headings, paragraphs, bullet and numbered lists, block quotes, horizontal rules, fenced code blocks and tables are laid out, with code set in a monospaced font. Choose A4, Letter, Legal, A3 or A5, portrait or sideways pages, three margin widths and page numbers. Inline styling such as bold words inside a sentence, italics, links and strikethrough is shown as plain text, and task-list boxes appear without the tick. Images are only included when embedded as data URIs, so pictures linked by URL or local path are left out. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use the Markdown to PDF

  1. Upload .md files, paste Markdown into the text box, or both.
  2. Choose the page size, orientation, margins and page numbers.
  3. Click Convert to PDF to typeset each document.
  4. Download the PDFs, with pasted text saved as markdown.pdf.

Frequently asked questions

Does it support GitHub-flavoured Markdown?

Mostly. It uses GitHub-flavoured parsing, so tables, fenced code blocks and lists work. Strikethrough, links and inline bold or italic show as plain text, and task-list items appear without their tick boxes.

Are images in my Markdown included?

Only images embedded directly as data URIs. Pictures linked by a web address or a path on your computer are left out, because the converter does not fetch files. Add them to the PDF afterwards with Edit PDF if needed.

Can I paste Markdown instead of uploading a file?

Yes. Paste into the text box and it is converted to its own PDF called markdown.pdf. You can paste and upload files in the same go, and each produces a separate PDF.

How are code blocks shown?

Fenced and indented code blocks are set in DejaVu Sans Mono, a monospaced font, so indentation and alignment are kept. There is no syntax colouring, so all code appears in a single colour.

Can I convert a PDF to Markdown?

Yes, with PDF to Markdown, a separate tool on this site that rebuilds headings, paragraphs and lists from a PDF's text layer. Scanned PDFs need PDF OCR first.
