Upload the original document as version A and the revised one as version B. PDF, Word, text and photo files all work, and the two versions can be in different formats. The tool splits both into sentences, lines them up, and lists every sentence that was added, removed or reworded, with its clause number and page. Reworded sentences get a more specific label where possible. Changed Amount means a money figure or percentage changed, and shows the percentage difference. Changed Date is used when a date moved. Obligation Reversed means 'not' or 'no' was added or removed, and Obligation Weakened means 'shall' or 'must' became 'may' or 'reasonable efforts'. A summary counts additions, removals and modifications, and the change log exports to Excel.

  4. Review the change log with both versions side by side, then export it to Excel.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compare two versions of a contract?

Upload the original and the revised version. The tool lists each sentence that was added, removed or changed, shows the old and new wording side by side, and gives the clause and page so you can find it in the document.

What kinds of changes does it detect?

It reports clause additions, clause removals and general rewording. It also labels a change as Changed Amount, Changed Date, Obligation Reversed when a negative such as 'not' appears or disappears, or Obligation Weakened when 'shall' or 'must' becomes softer wording.

How is a changed amount shown?

The note gives the old figure, the new figure and the percentage change. If a clause changes an annual fee from £12,000 to £13,200, it is labelled Changed Amount with the note 'Amount changed from 12,000.00 to 13,200.00 (+10%)'.

Does it compare formatting or only wording?

Only wording. Both files are turned into plain text, and differences in capital letters and punctuation are ignored when sentences are matched. Changes to fonts, layout, tables and images are not reported. Up to 1,500 sentences per document are compared.

Can I compare a PDF with a Word document?

Yes. Each file is converted to text before comparison, so version A can be a PDF and version B a Word (.docx) file. Both files are uploaded to our server, compared in memory and not stored. Each can be up to 30MB.
