Upload up to 20 documents, such as PDFs, Word files, spreadsheets or photos, and check them against a checklist. Pick renting a home or a mortgage application in the UK or US, supplier onboarding, or type your own list. Each file is matched to an item by keywords in its name and text, and custom lines understand common terms, so 'proof of address' finds a utility or council tax bill. Items are marked Received, Missing, Review Needed or Optional. Review is flagged when an ID has expired, a payslip, bank statement or bill is more than three months old, or your name does not appear on the document. For Right to Rent, British and Irish passports count even if expired, as GOV.UK allows. Files are read in memory and not stored.

How to use the Document Completeness Checker

  1. Choose what you are applying for, or type your own list of documents, one per line.
  2. Add your name as it appears on your ID if you want each document checked for it.
  3. Upload the documents and each one is matched to a checklist item, then checked for expiry dates, recent dates and your name.
  4. Read the Received, Missing, Review Needed and Optional results, fix anything flagged, then export the checklist to Excel.

Frequently asked questions

What documents do I need to rent a flat in the UK?

Letting agents usually ask for photo ID, proof of address from the last three months, recent payslips and bank statements, and sometimes a reference. In England your landlord must also check your Right to Rent: a British or Irish passport, even an expired one, or a share code or eVisa.

What documents do I need for a mortgage application?

UK lenders commonly want photo ID, proof of address, three months of payslips and bank statements, your latest P60 and proof of your deposit. Self-employed applicants add SA302s and tax year overviews. US lenders usually ask for pay stubs, two years of W-2s and two months of bank statements.

Why is a document marked Review Needed?

Something needs checking. An ID may show an expiry date in the past, a payslip, statement or bill may be more than three months old, your name may not appear on it, or the match may be weak. Fixing these before you apply avoids delays.

How does the name check work?

Type your name as it appears on your ID. The tool looks for your surname on each matched document, then your first name or its initial, so 'J Smith' matches Jane Smith. If a bill is in a partner's name, it is flagged so you can supply one in yours.

Does it check that documents are genuine?

No. It checks that the right kind of document seems to be there, and looks at dates and names. It cannot verify an ID or bank statement. Files are uploaded, read in memory and not stored, so avoid sending documents you do not need to.
