Documents
Transform, compare versions, check completeness, and extract structured line items from PDFs and scans.
Document tools show you exactly what changed between two versions of the same contract, proposal or policy, so you never sign a revision you have not read. Document Version Comparison is the tool in this category. It is built for the moment a client, supplier or landlord sends back a draft with a few small edits and you need to know which clauses moved.
Upload the original as version A and the revision as version B. The tool splits both into sentences, pairs them up and lists every sentence that was added, removed or reworded, with the old and new wording side by side and the clause number and page for each. Differences in capital letters and punctuation are ignored when sentences are matched, so the list stays short. Up to 1,500 sentences per document are compared.
A plain redline treats every change the same. This tool also labels the changes that tend to cost money or shift risk. A Changed Amount note gives the old figure, the new one and the percentage change, so an annual fee that rises from £12,000 to £13,200 is reported as +10%. Changed Date catches a moved deadline or term. Obligation Reversed flags a 'not' that has appeared or disappeared, and Obligation Weakened flags 'shall' or 'must' softened to wording such as 'may' or 'reasonable efforts'.
The two files can be in different formats, so you can compare a PDF with a Word file, and each can be up to 30MB. Only the wording is compared: changes to fonts, layout, tables and images are not reported. JPG and PNG photos are read with OCR first, but a scanned PDF with no text layer may not be readable, so use the digital original where you have it. Solicitors, procurement teams, tenants and freelancers checking a client's edits all use it in the same way, in the UK or the US. Files are processed on our server in memory and not stored, and the result is a checklist for your own review, not legal advice.

Common questions about documents
How do I compare two versions of a contract?
Upload the original and the revised version to Document Version Comparison. It lists each sentence that was added, removed or reworded, shows the old and new wording side by side, and gives the clause and page so you can find it. Changed amounts, changed dates and weakened or reversed obligations get their own labels.
Can I compare a PDF with a Word document?
Yes. Both files are converted to plain text before the comparison, so version A can be a PDF and version B a Word .docx file. Formatting, fonts and layout changes are not reported, only changes to the wording. Each file can be up to 30MB.
What does an obligation weakened change mean?
It means a firm duty in the original has been softened in the revision. When 'shall' or 'must' becomes 'may' or 'reasonable efforts', the other party may no longer have to do that thing in full. Document Version Comparison labels these sentences so you can decide whether to accept the new wording or push back.
Does the comparison work on scanned documents?
Partly. JPG and PNG photos are converted to text with OCR before they are compared. A scanned PDF with no text layer may not be readable, so upload the original Word file or a digital PDF where you have one. OCR can misread figures, so check any flagged amount against the page itself.
Is a document comparison a substitute for legal review?
No. It finds and labels the wording changes between two versions, which saves reading time, but it does not judge whether a change is fair, enforceable or right for you. Use the list as a checklist, and ask a solicitor or lawyer about any clause that affects money, liability or ending the agreement.
