Choose a text watermark or an image watermark. Text can be in any language, in any colour, bold or regular, at 4 to 400 pt. Images can be PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG up to 20 MB, sized from 5% to 100% of the page width. Place the watermark in the centre, along the page diagonal (where text is sized automatically to fit) or tiled across the page, and set the opacity from 5% to 100% and the rotation from -90 to 90 degrees. It can sit over the content or behind it, although behind-content marks are hidden on scans with solid backgrounds. Apply it to all, odd, even or selected pages. Text stays vector, and the file never leaves your browser.

How to use the Add Watermark to PDF

  1. Drop your PDF into the box and choose Text watermark or Image watermark.
  2. Type the text and set its size and colour, or drop in your logo and set its width.
  3. Choose centre, diagonal or tiled, the opacity, rotation, layer and which pages to stamp.
  4. Click Add watermark and download the PDF, saved with -watermarked in its name.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a watermark to a PDF for free?

Load the PDF, type your watermark text or add a logo, choose the position and opacity, and click Add watermark. The stamped file downloads straight away, with no account and no extra branding added.

Can I use my company logo as a watermark?

Yes. Switch to Image watermark and add a PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG file up to 20 MB. A transparent PNG looks best over text. Set the width as a percentage of the page and lower the opacity so the content stays readable.

Why can't I see my watermark behind the content?

Behind content places the watermark under the page's existing content. Scanned pages are one solid image, so they cover it completely. Switch the layer to Over content and use a low opacity instead.

Can I watermark only some pages?

Yes. Under Apply to, choose odd pages, even pages or a page range such as 1-3, 8-. Only those pages are stamped and the rest are left unchanged.

Can a watermark be removed?

The watermark is added as page content, so it is not a simple layer to switch off. Someone with PDF editing software could still remove it. For firmer protection, run the file through Rasterise PDF afterwards.
