Scanners, fax software and document systems often produce multi-page TIFF files that most people cannot open easily. This tool reads each TIFF with the UTIF decoder in your browser and turns every page inside it into a PDF page, so a ten-page fax becomes a ten-page PDF. You can add several TIFFs and set their order. Choose A4, Letter or Fit to image, a margin and an image quality; High saves pages as 92% JPEGs, which keeps scans readable at a fraction of the size, while Lossless keeps every pixel. Pixel size is used rather than the DPI stored in the file, so a 300 DPI scan is scaled down to fit A4 or Letter. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use the TIFF to PDF

  1. Choose one or more .tif or .tiff files.
  2. Put the files in order; pages inside each TIFF keep their original order.
  3. Select the page size, margin and image quality.

Frequently asked questions

Does it convert every page of a multi-page TIFF?

Yes. Each page stored inside the TIFF is decoded and added as its own PDF page, in the same order. If you add several TIFF files, their pages follow one another in the order you set with the arrows.

Why does Fit to image make my scan pages huge?

Fit to image sizes pages from the pixel count at 96 DPI and ignores the DPI saved in the TIFF. A 300 DPI A4 scan therefore becomes a very large page. Choose A4 or Letter instead to get normal paper-sized pages.

Will the PDF be smaller than my TIFF?

Usually, yes. With the default High quality, pages are stored as 92% JPEGs, which is far smaller than an uncompressed TIFF. Pick Lossless if you need an exact copy of every pixel, but expect a larger PDF.

Can I search the text in a scanned TIFF after converting?

Not straight away. The PDF pages are images of the scan. Run the PDF through the PDF OCR tool afterwards to add a text layer you can search, select and copy.

Are my scanned documents uploaded?

No. The TIFF is decoded and the PDF is built in your browser, so scanned letters, contracts and medical records stay on your own device.
