Enter the full-time salary for the job, the full-time hours or days a week, and the hours or days you will actually work. The calculator scales the salary to your pattern and shows your pro rata pay for a year, a month and a week, plus your share of full time as a percentage. If you only work part of the year, such as a fixed-term contract or a mid-year start, add your start and end dates or the number of months to see what you will earn for that period. All figures are before tax, and one click takes the annual amount into the UK take-home pay calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate a pro rata salary?

Divide your hours by the full-time hours and multiply the full-time salary by the result. On a £30,000 salary with a 37.5-hour week, working 22.5 hours gives 22.5 ÷ 37.5 = 60%, so your pro rata salary is £18,000 a year, or £1,500 a month before tax.

How do I work out pro rata pay for 3 days a week?

Divide 3 by the full-time days, usually 5, which gives 60%. Multiply the full-time salary by 0.6. A £30,000 job becomes £18,000 a year on 3 days a week, the same answer as working 22.5 hours of a 37.5-hour week.

What does pro rata mean on a job advert?

It means the salary shown is the full-time equivalent and you will be paid a share of it matching the hours you work. An advert for £28,000 pro rata at 4 days out of 5 pays £22,400 a year, or £1,866.67 a month before tax.

How do I calculate pro rata salary for part of a year?

Work out your pro rata annual salary, then multiply it by the share of the year you are employed. At £22,400 a year for a 6-month contract, you earn £22,400 × 6 ÷ 12 = £11,200. Using dates instead, the calculator counts calendar days, so 1 October to 31 March is 182 of 365 days.

Is pro rata salary before or after tax?

Before tax. The calculator shows gross pay. Income Tax, National Insurance, pension and student loan come off afterwards, and because part-time pay is lower you may pay a smaller share in tax. Use the link under the results to see your take-home pay on the pro rata amount.
