Pick each qualification, choose the grade and the calculator adds up your UCAS Tariff points. It covers A levels, AS levels, the Extended Project, BTEC Nationals from Extended Certificate to Extended Diploma, T Levels, Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers, the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales and the parts of the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Every value comes from the UCAS 2027 Tariff tables, checked in September 2026. An A* at A level is 56 points, so A*AA comes to 152. If you type in subject names, an AS is left out when you also hold the A level in that subject, and a Higher is left out when you hold the Advanced Higher. Many universities make offers in grades rather than points, so always check the course page.

Frequently asked questions

How many UCAS points is ABB?

ABB at A level is 128 UCAS points. An A is worth 48 points and a B is worth 40, so 48 + 40 + 40 = 128. AAB is 136 and BBB is 120.

How many UCAS points is an A* at A level?

An A* at A level is worth 56 UCAS points. An A is 48, B is 40, C is 32, D is 24 and E is 16. Three A* grades plus an A* in the Extended Project come to 196 points, because the EPQ adds 28.

How many UCAS points is a BTEC Extended Diploma?

A BTEC National Extended Diploma is worth between 48 points for PPP and 168 points for D*D*D*. DDM, a common offer, is 128 points, the same as ABB at A level. The National Diploma ranges from 32 for PP to 112 for D*D*.

How are IB Diploma UCAS points worked out?

UCAS does not give the IB Diploma a single points total. It scores each part: Higher Level grades from 12 to 56, Standard Level from 6 to 28, and the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge from 4 to 12. Grades of 6, 6, 5 at Higher Level, 6, 5, 5 at Standard Level and two Bs come to 220 points.

Do all universities use UCAS points?

No. UCAS says many universities make offers in grades, such as AAB, instead of points, and some that use points will not count every qualification. Use your total as a guide, then check the entry requirements on each course page.
