Random password mode lets you set a length from 6 to 128 characters and choose uppercase, lowercase, numbers and 27 symbols. You can also exclude look-alike characters such as I, l, 1, O and 0. When the length allows, at least one character from every chosen set is included before the result is shuffled. Passphrase mode picks 3 to 12 words from a built-in list of 454 short English words, joined by a hyphen, space, dot, underscore or nothing, with optional capitals and a two-digit number. Randomness comes from crypto.getRandomValues with rejection sampling, so no character is favoured. A meter shows the estimated strength in bits. Generate up to 100 at once and copy one or all.

    How to use the Password Generator

    1. Pick Random password or Passphrase at the top of the tool.
    2. Set the length and character types, or the number of words, separator and extras.
    3. Choose how many to make, and check the strength meter and bit estimate.
    4. Copy a single password or all of them, and click Regenerate for a fresh set.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are the generated passwords truly random?

    Yes. Every character or word is chosen with crypto.getRandomValues, the secure random source built into your browser. Rejection sampling is used so no character is picked more often than another, and the final order is shuffled in the same way.

    How long should a password be?

    Aim for at least 16 random characters using all four character types. The default of 20 characters gives roughly 129 bits, which the meter rates Very strong. For a PDF protected with AES-256, the password is the weak point, so a long random one matters.

    How many words should a passphrase have?

    Use at least eight words. The list has 454 words, so each adds about 8.8 bits. Five words give around 44 bits, which the meter rates Weak, while eight words give about 71 bits and a Strong rating. Adding a number adds under 7 bits.

    Are my passwords saved or sent anywhere?

    No. Passwords are generated on your device and are never transmitted or stored. The Save settings button keeps only your preferences, such as length and character types, and never the passwords themselves.

    What does excluding look-alike characters do?

    It removes characters that are easy to misread, such as I, l, 1, O, 0, o and some punctuation. That helps when a password will be read aloud or typed from paper, but it shrinks the character pool slightly, so add a few extra characters.
