Choose a start date and an end date. The calculator counts the days from the start date up to, but not including, the end date, or both dates if you tick Include the end date. It splits the total into working days and weekend days and shows the gap in weeks and days. Pick a region and public holidays that fall on a weekday are taken off the working days: UK bank holidays come straight from GOV.UK for England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, and US federal holidays follow the observed dates set in law. The holidays it removed are listed underneath. If you enter the dates the wrong way round, it swaps them for you. Use it for notice periods, delivery deadlines and project plans.

- Choose the start date, which defaults to today, and the end date.
- Pick whose public holidays to leave out: England and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, US federal or none.
- Tick Include the end date if you want both dates counted.
- Read the total days, working days, weekend days and the list of holidays that were taken off.
Frequently asked questions
How many days are there between two dates?
Subtract the start date from the end date. The calculator counts from the start date up to, but not including, the end date. 1 October to 25 December 2026 is 85 days, which is 12 weeks and 1 day.
How do I count working days between two dates?
Count Monday to Friday, then take off public holidays. From Friday 1 January to 1 February 2027 there are 31 days and 21 weekdays. New Year's Day is a bank holiday, so in England and Wales that leaves 20 working days. The calculator does both steps for you.
Does the calculator take off bank holidays?
Yes. Choose England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland and the bank holidays published by GOV.UK are taken off, or choose US federal holidays. Only holidays on a weekday change the count, and each one removed is listed so you can check it.
Is the end date included in the count?
Not by default, which is the usual way to measure a gap: Monday to the next Monday is 7 days. Tick Include the end date to count both. 28 September to 26 October 2026 gives 28 days, or 29 with the end date included.
How many working days are in a year?
2026 has 261 weekdays. Taking off the 8 bank holidays in England and Wales leaves 253 working days; Scotland has 10 weekday bank holidays in 2026, leaving 251. Enter 1 January 2026 to 1 January 2027 and pick your region to check.
